Onancock Kayak Challenge
Onancock Wharf

Always fun to watch, a great time participating.  The Onancock Kayak Challenge, for the third year, has grown in popularity. Kayakers from around the Chesapeake Bay enjoy the beautiful meandering nine mile course that begins at Bagwell Bridge at the wharf on historic Onancock Creek.  The Onancock Kayak Challenge has become a part of the Delmarva Canoe and Kayak Circuit 2000.

Event Day:
Saturday, September 16, 2000

A weekend of festivities for boaters and land-lovers, alike.
Boaters mooring out on Onancock Creek come ashore to enjoy the events while
kayakers get ready for the race.

The Great Paper Boat Race

The crowd at Onancock Wharf becomes
anxious as participants in this event get ready to start the race.  This is a popular event and everyone looks forward each year to the Great Paper Boat Race.  1999 was unique as the National Guard Unit located in Onancock participated for the first time.

There is hardly standing room!

And they are off.........

John Callandar, local Onancock resident and merchant is an avid participant.
Visit John's double storefront, Deadrise Enterprises, Ltd. at 3 & 5 North Street and take a gander
at his paperboat, "the Laura Ellen", hanging from the ceiling.  John invites you to stop by.
