Sam's Place is just plain fun. Locals, "comeheres", tourists, and yachtspersons come to eat, drink, and relax in a warm, casual atmosphere. Sam's is located upstairs in a beautifully restored turn of the century building at the corner of Market and North Streets, a short walk from the harbor. Tin ceilings, a thirty foot raised panel bar, and spotless kitchen are bragging points.
The dart room (smoking) is in constant demand,
featuring Scottish dart boards and steel tip darts, as well as its
own stereo and booths looking out over North Street. The "reading
room" (non-smoking) offers views of both Market and North Streets, has
its own stereo - there's classical music - and a growing library.
Pocketbooks are available on a "take one, leave one" basis, while hardback
books can be borrowed. It's a great place to just relax and enjoy
the quiet. Board games are available for dominos, backgammon, chinese
checkers, etc. players.
The main
room features window seating at tables as well as the long bar (shown here).
A piano and guitar are available for the musicians among us, both
amateur and professional. An open mike on Thursdays add to the fun.
The decor is eclectic, featuring both Texas (Sam lived in the Hill Country
near Austin) and Eastern Shore motifs.
Specials are featured from time to time.
Sam's Place is ABC licensed and is located upstairs on the corner
of Market Street and
North Street in Onancock, Virginia.
