We would like to invite everyone to our annual Big Lot Party, held Saturday, November 24th noon - 10:00 pm. The event is held in conjunction with the town of Cheriton's Holiday Open House. We have a heated tent that covers our entire parking lot and inside we have arts, crafts, civic organizations and other groups displaying and selling their goods. I came down to your fall festival on 9/22 as you have advertised only to find out it will not be until 9/29. How about refunding my $300+ I spent due to your error. This is not good for your town or the people you cause expenses for nothing. I can see why so many of your stores have gone out of business with this type of management. I just wanted to share with everyone the great time we had on Tangier Island, Va. Several weeks ago I signed the guestbook BEFORE going to the island and Now I thought I would update anyone who may be interested what we found there. At first, you may feel alittle stranded knowing that you cannot leave the island. But when it is time to go home, you may not want to leave. That is just the way we felt when it came time to take the boat back to the mainland. Everyone on the island makes you feel that you belong there and you begin to experience the island and its specialness to the fullest. I took many photos and movies with my video camera. The peacefulness and serenity has to be felt firsthand to truly appreciate. The Pruitt's were the greatest hosts and breakfasts were like your grandmas. The biggest dilema we had was where to sit and relax in their beautiful yard at the inn. Would it be the hammock or the upper deck of the gazebo? I think we tried every seat...Our daughter spent a lot of time terrorizing the ducks, but they too seemed to take it all in stride. I read and looked at the sunset, looked into all the creeks trying to find crabs and fish to show my daughter. We want to go back next year and bring my parents, who like us, would enjoy the golfcarts and the slow pace of the island. The world slows down so you can stop and enjoy each precious moment,... something most of us are unable to do because we either haven't got the time or forgot how. I would recommend Tangier Island to anyone who thinks this would appeal to their soul. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to get in touch with their spirit.. While passing through to NC to look for a home we fell in love with Virginia. We are now making our second trip down there in two weeks to look for our future home on the Penisula. Website!! I have been visiting the eastern shore of Va all of my life. We use to visit when there was just a handful of people gathering to watch the Pony swim from Assateague to Chincoteague at the boat ramp at the Camp ground where we always camped, throughout the 60's, 70's and so on as it became very popular.The Fireman used to have to make me get out of the water to make room for the ponies as they came on shore:) This charming town, awesome wildlife refuge and beatiful Ocean beach has left me with such sweet childhood memories. It has remained just as charming as ever.....and we still try to visit every year or so. I would like to reguest travel info for areas other than Chincoteague, such as Cape Charles, Wachaprague, Tangier Island and so on. We are going to Tangier Island in 2 weeks. I can't wait to experience the serenity and simple beauty that I see in the photos. When I was 19, two of my girlfriends and I took my fathers van from N.Y to Cape Charles, Va. and camped for the weekend of the fourth of July. We had a BLAST crabbing and fishing off the pier.We made wonderful memories that have stayed with me for over 20 years....!Besides not telling my dad we ACTUALLY drove all the way to Va. (I told him we were in N.J)....(If my kids did that, I would certainly not be a happy parent today,...ha-ha). Anyway, The Eastern shore of Va. have always made fond & lasting memories for me, as well as other trips to Chincoteague and Assateague over the years...I know that that Tangier Island will hold the same.
