The second in the Fall Series, “Antonia’s Line (Netherlands)” is the 1945 story of a ruggedly regal woman who returns to the backwater village of her birth with her daughter. Over five decades and several generations, a quiet but profound revolution takes place as Antonia’s farm becomes the center of a matriarchal utopia based on tolerance and common sense.

Based on a true story, this moving film centers on a man condemned to life as a quadriplegic after a tragic accident. Determined to die with dignity, he leads a 30-year campaign to win the right to end his life. While certainly a thought-provoking controversial movie dealing with the right to die being a personal or institutional choice, the film is beautifully done and viewers come to admire and love the characters despite their views.

A touching film that centers on two completely opposite men who are facing death; one has a quiet existence, the other a life of danger. They meet by chance a few days before each of them must gamble with their lives and develop a friendship as they ponder what would have happened had they taken the other’s path. The ending is beautifully scripted and filmed and will provide different meanings to different people.
