Onancock Regatta Weekend
Half Black Tie Dinner Dance
1998
Review
The Onancock Regatta Weekend's first event is the Half-Black Tie
Dinner Dance held at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. Jeff
Barrett was the poster model for the 1998 Half-Black Tie theme: formal
attire replete with red bow tie atop shorts set the pace for the evening.
The fun began at 7:00 PM and went until midnight. The first hour was spent
getting acquainted at the open cash bar and dinner was served at 8:00 PM
by the attentative staff of the ESYCC. The most creative outfit prize
went to John & Fay Koedel of Fishing Bay Yacht and Country Club (see
home page).
1998's theme
was greatly influenced by the blockbuster move, Titanic! Photos were
taken on the "prow of the ship" ala Peggy and Jim Habern winning the pose.
The very realistic ship's prow was created by Jeff Shields of ADCO Signs.
Each table had a mini water world that included a small boat, live fish
and plants. Dance music of every variety was provided.
The most
elegant and haute tacky outfits of the evening were sported by Gene Morgan
(Gene & wife Sherry shown left) and the gracious, Dottie Williams
(Dottie & husband, Mayor Jim Williams shown right) Dottie's moth-eaten
fur stole and Gene's designer tuxedo shirt and jacket were at complete
odds with the rest of their regalia. Dinner Dance Committee Chairperson,
Maphis Oswald made sure the tacky outfitters were awarded equally tacky
prizes as hot water bottles in velvet pouches went to winners Willie Crockett
and Pam Barefoot (not shown); Willie's camouflage tuxedo and Pam's very
strange head gear.
Willie
and his lovely wife, Iris, were Guest of Honor at the 1998 affair (as shown
from left to right, Sharon Goodrow, Willie Crockett, and Iris Crockett.
Half-Black Tie Dinner Dance participants were from the Fishing Bay Yacht
and Country Club, Deltaville, Virginia, Onancock, the Eastern Shore of
Virginia, and the Delmarva Peninsula.
2000's tickets are available. Call early, make reservations for
a wonderful fun evening: telephone 757 787-2564 or E-mail
